Cookie Policy

The short version
As things stand, this site sets no cookies. It writes two values into your browser's own localStorage, each to remember an answer you gave, and it loads no tag from Google or anyone else.
The two keys, named
| Key | Written when | Holds | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| ol_age_ok | You press Yes, I am 18 or over on the home page | The word yes | Until you clear site data |
| ol_consent | You press Accept or Decline on the cookie bar | granted or denied | Until you clear site data |
These are localStorage entries, and they are never attached to a request or sent to our server. Every read and write is wrapped, so a browser that refuses to store them does not break the page and just asks you the question again on your next visit.
What Consent Mode v2 does here
In the head of every page, before the stylesheet and before any other script, a few lines create the Google dataLayer and set four consent signals to denied:
- ad_storage: storage for advertising purposes.
- ad_user_data: sending user data to Google for advertising.
- ad_personalization: personalised advertising.
- analytics_storage: storage for measurement.
A wait_for_update of 500 milliseconds is set alongside them, so that if a Google tag were ever present it would pause for your decision instead of assuming one. Pressing Accept calls the same mechanism with all four set to granted; pressing Decline confirms them as denied. Because the defaults run first, the denied state is what holds while you are still reading the bar.
What would appear if measurement is added
Nothing below is on the site today. It is written down so that you know in advance what accepting would allow.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Typical life |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics 4 | Tells one browser from another so visits can be counted | 2 years |
| _ga_<container> | Google Analytics 4 | Keeps the state of the current session | 2 years |
| _gid | Google Analytics | Distinguishes browsers over a single day | 24 hours |
| _gcl_au | Google Ads | Attributes a conversion to a click | 90 days |
| IDE, test_cookie | Google Ads, doubleclick.net | Advertising measurement and frequency | Up to 13 months |
If and when a tag is installed, this table and the review date above are updated before it goes live.
Changing your mind
Use the Cookie settings control at the foot of every page. The bar reappears and whatever you press replaces the stored answer at once. Clearing this site's data in your browser also wipes the stored answer, and the bar then treats you as a first-time visitor.
Blocking cookies in the browser
- Chrome: Settings, Privacy and security, Third-party cookies, then Site settings for this address.
- Firefox: Settings, Privacy & Security, Enhanced Tracking Protection, or Manage Data for a single site.
- Safari: Settings, Privacy, Block all cookies, or Manage Website Data.
- Edge: Settings, Cookies and site permissions, Manage and delete cookies.
Blocking everything is fine here. The pages are static, so the only thing you lose is the memory of your own two answers, and both questions are then asked again.
What this site does not use
- Social network pixels, whether from Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn or X.
- Device fingerprinting, canvas probing or font enumeration.
- Any advertising network beyond the Google products named above, and those are used only after consent.
- Embedded maps, video players, font services, comment systems or chat widgets. Fonts and scripts are served from this domain.
- Cross-site tracking, data brokers or the sale of anything to anybody.
How the same ground looks from the data-protection side is set out in the Privacy Policy.
