The casino floor

One room behind the painted ceiling salon, with a few tables and a bar at the window end. It belongs to the house and you reach it from inside. It opens in the evenings, admits only people aged 18 and over, and checks photo identification at the door every time.

Where it is

Up the stone stair, through the salon

Come in from the square through the vaulted passage; the hall is on your right, with the desk in it. From there the stone stair turns twice and comes out on the first-floor landing, or you can take the lift at the back of the hall if the stairs are a nuisance. The landing opens into the painted ceiling salon, which runs the length of the street front, and the door at its far end is the gaming floor. It is three doors from the pavement, and the floor has no street entrance of its own.

Olmarova Casino is a room of the same house, under the same roof and the same licence as the beds and the kitchen. The staff who check your identification at the door are the people you met at the desk an hour earlier.

A plan of the route from the square: through the vaulted passage, past the reception desk in the hall, up the stone stair or by the lift, along the painted ceiling salon, to the door of the gaming room at its far end. The room

One small room

Eleven metres by seven, with two windows over Riegrova and a stuccoed ceiling that was mended in place. The floor has a few tables, with no machines or screens and no second room behind it. The bar at the window end is the same counter that serves the salon, so a drink arrives without anybody leaving their seat.

It feels more like a private library than anything you would picture under the word casino. Conversation carries and the lamps are low. At its busiest, on a Saturday in December, the room holds about forty people. If it is full, staff will ask you to wait in the salon, and they do it kindly.

The floor is open in the evenings, Wednesday to Sunday, from 19:00 until the last table closes at 02:00. It stays shut on Mondays and Tuesdays and on the 24th and 25th of December.

Dress

The casino's dress code is a dining room's: smart without being strict. Men should wear a collar, sportswear, beachwear and work boots are out, and hats come off indoors. Nobody will turn you away for the cut of a jacket, but a tracksuit has been sent home before.

At the door

Eighteen, and your card every visit

Czech law sets the age for a casino at 18, and the house applies it to everyone. Photo identification is checked at the door on every visit, whatever the person looks like and however long they have been staying. A guest who has slept upstairs for a fortnight shows it the same as anyone else. The door accepts a passport or a national identity card, and a driving licence from Czech and EU holders.

The check is logged as the law requires, and the log holds only that. The privacy policy explains what happens to the record.

Limits

The staff on duty set limits on the casino tables when you are on the floor. We don't publish them because they aren't fixed: they depend on the table, the evening and how busy the room is. Please ask before you sit down. Staff would much sooner answer at the door than halfway through an evening.

If you want to stop

Self-exclusion is arranged at the desk

Anyone can ask to be excluded from the gaming floor. It is done in person at reception, downstairs in the hall: you give your name to the duty manager, you agree a period together, and from then on the door will not let you in. There is no form to download and no number to ring. Everything is settled face to face at the desk, in confidence, and staff don't discuss it with anyone, including people travelling with you.

If exclusion is more than you want, reception can arrange something smaller: a time limit for the evening, a spending limit held on your behalf, a break, or a member of staff who comes to find you at an hour you name. Staff get these requests all the time and deal with them without comment.

More on the house position is on the responsible gaming page.

To be clear

This is a land-based room

Olmarova Casino is a land-based casino floor on the first floor of a house in Olomouc: one room, at one address, up a staircase.

None of the casino is online, and it won't be. This website offers no games, takes no bets, holds no accounts, accepts no deposits and processes no payments. You can't sign up for anything or download anything here. The pages describe a building, and the most the site can do is give you the opening hours and a telephone number.

The floor has no cash machine and the house gives no credit, so bring what you need with you.
